I am a nineteen-year-old from Singapore. Currently 'Serving the Nation', five days of every week of mine is spent in an army camp. Because of this, I am mostly able to work on my hubs only on weekends until my term ends in December 2011.

I took my 'A' levels in November 2009 and did pretty well. I intend to enroll in Singapore Management University to take the Bachelor of Business Management programme in 2012.

Whatever time I have for myself, I spend reading, writing on Hubpages and improving my technique and musicianship as a drummer.

Why I Joined Hubpages

I joined Hubpages while I was finding a way to make money online. I did a simple Google search of that phrase. I looked at a few different methods and I found Hubpages.

What attracted me are the pleasant format, ease of signing up and posting hubs, and the ranking system that ensures quality writers and hubs are recognised. I pride myself on my aptitude for English. If I could have an avenue to practise and publish my writing, and eventually make some money out of it, why not?

Even if I don't eventually make any money from Hubpages, I feel I would still learn much. At this point in my life, I have the luxury to venture and experiment. I rebel at the thought of stagnating and remaining passive while 'National Service' takes away nearly two years of my life. As my previous two years have taught me, a person can change and learn bloody much in two years.

Writing Style

Well-structured, concise, fluent. I believe in making the extra effort in writing to give my readers quality. I structure my writing and format it to give you a presentable layout that is more pleasant and logical to read. I avoid long sentences if I can express myself more aptly in shorter ones. Flowery language only impairs your understanding--I write clearly and precisely.

I also edit and improve my writing every bit I can, adding relevant images and videos, correcting grammar/spelling errors and improving expression, right down to the ordering and choice of words in sentences. I am quite a perfectionist.

My approach to writing is acquired from this book called 'How to Write and Speak Better' that's published by Reader's Digest. I recommend it to anyone who is serious in improving their command of English.

What I read also influences my writing style along with my implicit voice in writing. In my mid-teens, 'this is All, the Pillow Book of Cordelia Kenn' by Aidan Chambers was a key influence. In my late-teens, these two books initiated a revolution in my thinking: 'The Story of Philosophy' by Will Durant and 'Of Human Bondage' by William Somerset Maugham.

Now I read mostly non-fiction, probably because the last few fiction books I picked up turned me off.

Today

A you may have noticed, I have not written for a while now. I'm taking a break away from Hubpages and may come back to write again when I feel like it.

As you read my hubs, please give feedback on the content and style so that I may improve my writing further. You may do so though commenting, fan mail or email. Thanks.
